As the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore put it, “A weep on the cheek of eternity,” the Taj Mahal is beyond words to express; neither words nor images can do it justice. This exquisite garden mausoleum, which is a representation of the Islamic garden of heaven, took 22 years to construct. Its flawless proportions and fine craftsmanship were the products of both Indian and foreign artists. The Taj Mahal is a symbol of Mughal riches and opulence in art and architecture.
Your knowledgeable tour guide will take you on a thorough exploration of this magnificent architectural marvel while vividly describing the enchanting love story between Emperor Shahjahan and Empress Mumtaz Mahal.
The Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is possibly the most opulent fort in India and was the centre of the Mughal dynasty’s power for more than a century. This massive red sandstone citadel, which predates the Taj Mahal, was initially built as a defensive fort but was eventually transformed into an elegant fort palace, showcasing the Mughals’ skill at fusing art and architecture. The complex includes galleries, pleasure gardens, courtly and magnificent mansions, and strong barracks. From the other side of the river, it provides an amazing view of the Taj Mahal.
Often referred to as the “baby Taj,” it is said to have been constructed before the Taj Mahal. The first mausoleum made of white marble was Itmad-ud-daulah, which was commissioned by Empress Noorjahan for her parents. This magnificent building is highly ornamented with lovely floral inlays of semi-precious stones on the white marble.
